If you are on the fence about whether to stay on or off Disney property during your vacation, you might be interested to know that today at Disney World's Magic Kingdom park, admission was denied to all day guests due to a Phase 3 closing (oh, that's just fun to say - sounds all 007!). A phase 3 closing means that admission to the park will be limited to only Disney Resort Guests, Annual Passholders, Guests with Park Hoppers coming from another park and Guests re-entering the park during the same day. Day guests are anyone who does not fit one of those categories. So basically, if you were staying at the Howard Johnsons (this is my example, I have no idea if there even is a HoJo in the area) for your Disney-trip-of-a-lifetime-so-you-could-see-your-3-year-old's-eyes-light-up-when-she-sees-Cinderella, you would have been extremely disappointed in your hotel choices today!
Just thought I'd pass this tip along for those vacationeers brave enough to battle the spring break/summer vacation/holiday crowds at Disney. Staying off property to save some money might keep you locked out of the magic for the day!

How rude! I would be totally pissed if that happened to me. We went when my daughter was 5 and if they told me we couldn't get in... OMG I would have went off. Good thing we stay on Disney property!!!
Have a happy Easter!
Wow, I did not know that they did such a thing and that would be awful is you spent all that money to go to Disney and could not get in!!! Makes you think hard and long about Dinsey!!! I would have been screaming my foul head off!!!
Hi Lori and Jocelyn!
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your comments! I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.
I guess I'm just looking at it differently. I'm looking at it from Disney's perspective and my own perspective as a loyal and repeat Disney Resort guest.
You have to figure that during holidays, spring break times and summer that there are days when Disney is going to reach capacity. That is just a fact. Nothing Disney or anyone can do about it. Just from a safety standpoint, you wouldn't want them to let in more people than they should capacity wise, right?
So Disney is giving their loyal resort guests (and the others on the list) first crack at admittance on those near-capacity days. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all.
If it's between me getting in while I'm a Disney Guest staying on Disney property (and paying accordingly!) and someone else who is not in the same catetgory of "guest" because they are staying off site and only buying a one-day/one-park ticket, then I have no problem with them being chosen as the ticket holders who Disney will not have room for at that park on that day.
I guess it comes down to that's the choice they made when planning their stay and capacity is capacity.
That's why I cannot stress enough how important planning is when going to Disney World. Planning ahead would probably alert non-Disney resort guests that parks do sometimes reach capacity and close to new day guests entering the park.
As far as what it makes me think about Disney? I personally admire that they take care of the guests that are paying more to stay on their property. Not only am I paying more to stay on property, but I am also eating every single meal on their property (we do not even rent a car, so we never leave for 10 days), buying every bottle of water on their property, souvineers, recreation, drinks, etc, etc. It's just yet another perk for guests staying on property.
If it was not for my daughter getting a trip from Make-A-Wish I would never try to go there in the summer! Or not sure I would have gone at all, I would rather go off season to Europe for that kind of money!
Wow, really? I had no idea that they did that! Thanks for the pointers. I guess whenever I go we will be staying on private property so we don't miss out. I agree with your reply and think I would be upset if I was staying at the park hotel and was unable to get in. I guess everyone just loves Disney!!
Well, that just sucks big time. I would have complained, but probably to deaf ears. Thanks for the heads up!
My DH is a hugh disney fan. He always books our stay on the disney property. One, its about the same to stay off property, and number too...it's just easier with the kids.
